John 4:10a

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God,

‘Are You greater?’ The woman at the well who was a Samaritan posed this question to our Lord Jesus Christ. In those days there was a disconnect between the Jews and the Samaritans. Even though the well belonged to Jacob’s time, a Jew would never approach a Samaritan and ask for water. This is due to the strict purity requirements of the law, Jewish people would not touch anything that Samaritans owned.

Jesus saw that the woman was stuck in the traditions, and He gave her the opportunity to believe in Him. Jesus declared that He is the gift of God.

By the description of our Lord, we know that she was married five times to five different men. Marriage is holy and only between one man and one woman. Marriage is not between one man and five woman or between one woman and five men. Marriage is not between man and man or between woman and woman.

A person has to repent of his sins and seek God’s forgiveness for the things he did in his life. Then he should invite Lord Jesus Christ to come into his heart and make Him the Lord of his life. This has to be continuous process. The moment we invite Lord Jesus Christ into our life, instantly we are justified by God.

The woman then went to her city and invited the men of which many believed in Christ. This should be an encouragement to each of us to be simple, courageous, and direct in our witness for Christ.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

What a mighty God is our Lord Jesus Christ! Praise Him!
